WHAT IS COSMETIC MOLE REMOVAL?

Cosmetic Mole Removal is the removal of moles using RF (radio frequency) technology. This modern technology can be used on any body areas, including the face and it removes moles without leaving a surgical scar.

Cosmetic Mole Removal requires only a local anaesthetic and the procedure will not disrupt your day-to-day activities as it requires no scalpels or stitches, leaving a smooth final result with minimal after care required.

Cosmetic GP and Founder of Vinesse Aesthetics at Westridge Medical in Toowoomba, Dr Vinu Ramnanan, will remove your unwanted moles without leaving a scar. Call us today to discuss this effective non-evasive removal of cosmetic moles.

HOW DOES RADIOFREQUENCY MOLE REMOVAL WORK?

Cosmetic Mole Removal uses a device that conducts a current in the radio frequency range to pass through a fine wire or ball electrode. This procedure is used to remove raised lesions and moles on the skin by gently shaving away layer by layer from the skin surface without the use of a scalpel incision or stitching. Radio frequency cauterises the skin at the same time as when the device shaves the mole, eliminating the risk of scaring and bacterial infection.

The procedure starts off with cleaning of the area with antiseptic solution, then numbing the area with local anaesthetic. Each mole only takes between 5-10 minutes using the radiofrequency device.

Cosmetic Mole Removal using radiofrequency is painless and only requires one appointment. Wounds are generally not painful and will resemble a graze, which will heal naturally.

IS THERE DOWNTIME AFTER COSMETIC MOLE REMOVAL?

After the removal of unwanted moles or lesions, a small wound remains on the skin. A small dressing is placed over the area to protect it during the healing process. There is no down time required, so you can exercise or go to work, however when you shower, cover the area for the first 5 days. Swimming is not advised for the 3 weeks post treatment.

The area will temporarily remain red or pink in colour for up to 3-4 months post treatment. The wound is usually flat and will scab after a week or two. Once the scab falls off it is important to not pick the area.

It is advised to minimise exposure to the sun or UV rays, use 30+ sunscreen to prevent sun damage. Healing serum or cream is encouraged to prevent the area drying out. Face makeup should not be applied directly to the wound for approximately 2 weeks.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF COSMETIC MOLE REMOVAL?

  • If there are hyperpigmented cells located beneath the surface of the skin, it is possible that pigmentation in the mole may reoccur. It can take 6-7 weeks for this to appear. Please call your Doctor if this occurs.
  • Bruising may occur due to the injecting of local anaesthetic and should settle within one week.
  • Bleeding can be common after the procedure – this is generally minor and usually only lasts 1-2 days.
  • Infection is uncommon. But if you suspect an infection, please contact us immediately.
  • Scarring varies based on the mole type, skin colour, previous history of scarring and general health. Please check with your GP if you have any concerns.
  • Moles can regrow, although this is rare. If necessary a follow up treatment can be performed.

Please note that cosmetic mole removal is a private procedure and medicare rebates are not available for this procedure. If Dr Vinu is suspicious about the appearance of a mole, she will direct you to an appointment for a skin cancer check and possibly a biopsy.
