WE CARE FOR REFUGEES IN AUSTRALIA

ACCESS REFUGEE CARE

REFUGEE HEALTH

Australia is working hard toward providing all refugees settling in Queensland access to the right care, at the right time and in the right place to ensure they have the best possible health and wellbeing.

The Queensland Government provides Medicare ineligible asylum seekers with access to public health services at no charge. The Fees and Charges Health Service Directive enacts this policy position and an information sheet (PDF 279 kB) provides more information on visa types and Medicare eligibility.

If you are a Refugee or Asylum Seeker in Australia and in need of health care, please book an appointment with a GP at Westridge Medical to find out more on the care available to you.

HEALTH FOR REFUGEES

Australia recognises that many people arriving as refugees have multiple and complex physical and psychological health issues, possibly as a result of:

  • traumatic events such as psychological trauma or torture
  • deprivation and prolonged poverty
  • poor access to health care prior to arrival in Australia.

Ask your GP for more information on how you can access help as a Refugee.
